Former mayor to run again
By Cindy Lane

HOLMES BEACH - Holmes Beach City Commissioner Rich Bohnenberger has announced that he will run for mayor of Holmes Beach, a position he held from 1994-96.

Mayor Carol Whitmore announced last week that she would not run again.

A Holmes Beach resident for 16 years, Bohnenberger was elected in 1993 to the city commission, then served as mayor from

1994-96. In 1999, he again won a city commission seat and has served on that board since.

During his two years as mayor, Bohnenberger said he expanded city services, reduced the operating budget, introduced a drug-free workplace program, saved money on workers compensation premiums and instituted an employee evaluation system.

Bohnenberger is a past director of the Florida League of Cities and currently serves on its environmental policy quality committee, and is vice president and former treasurer of the Manasota League of Cities. He also has represented all three Island cities and Longboat Key on Manatee County’s joint planning committee.
